What we collect
- Account data. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link. We never see or store a password.
- Listing data. The business information owners submit: name, address, phone, email, website, hours, and similar details. Listings are public by design once approved.
- Search and chat queries. What you type into search or the AI assistant, used to find matching businesses and improve results.
- Nominations. When you recommend a business, we save the business name, city, website (if you give one), and the time. If you're signed in, we also save a link to your account. Each nomination also gets random codes our system uses to avoid saving the same form twice and to support owner invitations. We don't ask for the owner's contact details.
How we use it
To operate the directory: signing you in, publishing listings owners ask us to publish, and answering search queries. We don't sell your data, run third-party advertising, or share your information with anyone except the service providers below.
Nominations and owner invitations
Nominations are private and are never published as listings. On the site, only our admins can view them. The relevant service providers listed below process nomination data on our behalf. We also email our admin inbox about each new nomination with the business name, city, website, and whether the person was signed in, but not who they are.
Invitation links. After you nominate a business, you get a private link to send the owner yourself. Sharing is optional. We don't send the link for you, and we don't record whether you shared it or whether anyone received it. If you share it by text, email, or another app, that app's own privacy practices apply.
Anyone who has the link can open it, not just the owner. It shows the business name and city you entered and a short explanation. It doesn't show who made the nomination, the website, or the nomination's status. We ask search engines not to index invitation pages. Send the link only to the owner or someone who can pass it on to them.
The link's private code is part of the web address. Like any web address, it passes through the services that host our site and send our sign-in emails, and they may record it in their logs.
When the owner lists the business. If the owner signs in and submits a listing through the link, we connect the nomination to that listing. Our admins can see that connection and the listing's review status. We don't tell the owner who nominated them. The listing gets the same review as any other, and the link never publishes a listing or gives anyone control of one.
To prevent abuse, our server keeps a short-term count of recent nominations, and of invitation links opened, for each signed-in account or, for visitors who aren't signed in, each IP address. These counts are held in memory, aren't saved to our database, and are cleared when the server restarts.
We keep nomination records as described here. Closing a nomination removes it from our active list and turns off its link, but we keep the record. If a listing connected to a nomination is deleted, the nomination keeps a note that its link was used but no longer points to the listing. If your account is deleted, your nominations stay but are no longer connected to you.
Service providers
We rely on a small set of infrastructure providers to run the site: Supabase (database and authentication), Netlify (website hosting), Google Cloud Run (our search and chat service), Resend (sign-in and notification emails), ImprovMX (forwarding email sent to our contact address), Gmail (reading and replying to that email), Google Gemini (processing search and chat queries), and OpenStreetMap's Nominatim (converting addresses to map coordinates). Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
Cookies
We use only the cookies required to keep you signed in. No tracking or advertising cookies.
Your choices
Owners can delete their own listings at any time from My listings. Public listing information is removed from the site when the listing is deleted.
